THE MEETING/ BONJOUR

The painting selected for this Art Appreciation exercise is entitled ‘ The meeting or Bonjour, Monsieur Courbet ’ , painted by Gustave Courbet in 1854. In this painting, there are three people and one dog as the foreground.
The left hand site man named Calas. He is standing with head look down 45 degree and the view is third quarter view. His leg is standing around 90 degree. He has a black beard and black colour hair. His right hand is holding a black hat and it named homburg. However, his left hand is holding a stick and his wrist is covering by a red cloth. He is wearing a white scarf around his neck, yellow vest with a brown Trench coat and white glove on both of his hand. For the bottom part of his body, he is wearing a yellowish white long pant and a pairs of brown green shoes.
The second man from the left hand site on the painting is called Alfred Bruyas. He is standing with third quarter view and his left leg is behind his right leg. His head is around 90 degree and his eye is looking to the man in front of him. He has a red brown beard and red brown hair. His left hand is holding a black hat and it named Beret. He wears a ring on his right hand, holding a walking stick and holding a white glove. For the costume, he is wearing a dark green peacoat with black and white collar. It has 2 buttons and 2 pockets on his peacoat. On his left hand, he is wearing a white glove. A dark brown long pant and dark brown green shoes was wore by him.
However, the right hand site man named Courbet. He is standing with head look up about 45 degree. His head is side view and the body is back side view. He has a long black beard and black hair. He is holding a stick on his right hand and left hand holding a white hat named Boater. Besides, he also wears a wooden back pack. There are some wooden stick on his bag and cover with a black cloth.
Further more, there is a dog inside the painting. The species of the dog is Anglo-Francis depetite Verieve. The dog is belongs to Calas. It is standing on the floor and black and white in colours. The dog is looking at the right site and there is a yellow chain on its neck.

For the background, we can see that it is an infinite space with blue sky, white cloud and a ground with sand and grass. There is also having some shrub tree, few plants and some flower which is red and orange in colours.  Besides, there is also has a carriage towed by 2 horses, one is white and another one is brown in colours.

What is pictorial stereotype?

This is another pictorial stereotype picture I found that the African- American is portrayed as a criminal for a documentary book. Moreover, the application of typo on the magazine cover attracts viewers because it is emphasizing the word “BLACK WEST” which will stimulate the man on the cover.

Asian Female Stereotypes

Nowadays, the “GT Car Race” held Asian women or as known as “SUPER GT QUEENS” will be dressed sexily just to promote their car brands and also to attract sponsorship. Since GT Car Race is much of a “Manly” event these ladies are to attract the men. This proves that the women are used as a sexual object to attract the potential customers.

differences between monochromatic, colors after effect and images that uses color to create 3D

(1)    Monochromatic image

Monochromatic occurs when one color is tone using black and white.
As in the picture above, the tiger is painted using blue and differentiate the tones by adding black and white. This creates hue.

(2)    an image that produces color after-effects
The picture above shows an image of after-effects. Pictures look good after-effects. As in the picture above, there’s before and after. The after effect picture looks much more outstanding because the adjustment of colour has become brighter as before was dull.

(3)    an image that uses color to create three-dimensionality

Colours can create a three dimension picture. All we got to do is just play with the colour around the contour and also create shadings on an image or painting. Besides that, we must also use value and tonal method in order to achieve a three dimension picture.

effective and ineffective advertisement

Part 6
Effective image/text integration
This is an effective image used by coca-cola. That bottle has become an icon for coca-cola. The text also stimulates the viewers mind and also stating directly that coca-cola is the number 1 brand for soft drinks.

This is a picture of “OLD SPICE” body bath advertisement. This is also one of the effective advertising pictures. The reason is because in the picture it is stated clearly that by using this body bath buyers will feel the freshness, chillness, cleanliness and also a good fragrance body bath.
This is another example of effective advertising picture. This is because they indicate/show that its pure apple juice with sparkling water. This will attract more customers since the text and the graphic visual is well advertised.

Ineffective image/text integration
This is a bad example of advertising. The reason why it is bad is because there’s no information is disseminated about the product to the consumer but only uses a famous artist to be the product ambassador.

I found this picture on an online selling website. This picture doesn’t have texts promoting neither a good graphic to let the buyers interpret. That is why this is an ineffective advertising image.

what is SYMBOLIC, ICONIC and INDEXICAL

Symbolic

Symbols that have not logically represent connection between them and the things they represent. A symbolic sign would be a red octagon shaped sign. When a person sees this, they would automatically know it means stop. The sign has an arbitrary connection to its meaning.
Iconic
Iconic signs most closely resemble the thing they represent. An example of an iconic sign would be the sign outside of public restrooms that indicates them as male or female restrooms. The sign resembles what it stands for.

Indexical

Have a logical, commonsense connection to the thing or idea they represent rather than a direct resemblance to the object. An example of an indexical sign would be smoke. The smoke would indicate that there was a fire. This means that there is a casual link between the sign and its meaning.
